B.Tujuan Pembelajaran

Diberi contoh-contoh Conditional Sentences Type 1, 2 dan 3 pada akhir pembelajaran diharapkan siswa dapat:

1.    Mengidentifikasi struktur Conditional Sentences Type 2 (Pertemuan 4)

 

C.  Indikator

1.    Mengidentifikasi perubahan gramatika dari Conditional Sentences Type 1 menjadi Conditional Sentences Type 2 atau sebaliknya

2.    Mengidentifikasi perubahan struktur Conditional Sentences Type 2

Pendahuluan Conditional Sentences Type 2 (CS2) digunakan untuk mengandaikan sesuatu yang sangat kecil kemungkinannya terjadi. Disini dijadikan satu KD dengan expression of asking for suggestion karena memiliki keterkaitan sebab musabab. Orang yang memberi saran (giving suggestion) bisa saja menggunakan pola kalimat CS2 ini.  Lebih jelasnya, ikuti uraian berikut.

 

Pengertian:

Conditional berasal dari kata condition = syarat/ persyaratan. Dalam Bahasa Indonesia, conditional sentence diterjemahkan ‘kalimat pengandaian’. Ditandai menggunakan kata ‘If’ = jika/ seandainya. Conditional sentence adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan keinginan, harapan, pengandaian, atau rencana yang mungkin terwujud atau sebaliknya malah tidak.

Secara umum formulanya adalah:

If + condition + consequence                  atau               Jika + persyaratan + konsekuensi

Atau dibalik

consequence + if + condition                  atau               konsekuensi + jika + persyaratan

Conditional Sentence dibedakan menjadi 4 (empat) tipe:

-          Conditional sentence Type 0 (CS0)

-          Conditional sentence Type 1 (CS1)

-          Conditional sentence Type 2 (CS2)

-          Conditional sentence Type 3 (CS3)

Di sini kita focus pada CS2. Meskipun demikian berikut dijelaskan sekilas penggunaan masing-masing conditional sentence.

Fungsi:

CS0 adalah tipe yang paling sederhana. Tipe ini fungsinya untuk menyampaikan suatu fakta, menggunakan formula “jika … maka …”

Contoh Conditional sentence TYPE 0 (dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Jika dekat api maka anda kepanasan, FORMULANYA: “Jika … maka…”
If + simple present + simple present	atau	Simple present + if + simple present
If + S + V1 + O     +  S + V1 + O		S + V1 + O      + if + S + V1
If   you are near fire   you are hot	atau	You are hot         if    you are near fire

Contoh lain: If ice melts it becomes water (jika es meleleh maka ia menjadi air)

CS1 fungsinya untuk mengatakan sesuatu yang mungkin terjadi di masa mendatang. Anda menggunakan kalimat pengandaian ini karena yakin bahwa peristiwanya akan terjadi di masa mendatang dengan persyaratan tertentu.

Contoh Conditional sentence TYPE 1 (dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Contoh lain: If I study hard, I will pass the exam (jika aku belajar giat aku akan lulus ujian)

Kalimat contoh di atas peristiwanya (menunggu) akan dilakukan dengan syarat/ pengandaian ‘kamu’-nya setia. Seandainya ‘kamu’ ternyata tidak setia maka ‘aku’ tidak akan menunggu. Contoh lain: If I study hard, I will pass the exam (jika aku belajar giat aku akan lulus ujian)

CS2 fungsinya untuk mengandaikan sesuatu yang sangat kecil kemungkinannya terjadi/ hampir mustahil terjadi. Meski ada peluang terjadi, kalimat tipe ini cocok digunakan untuk mengkhayal/ bermimpi (nggedabrus).

Contoh Conditional sentence TYPE 2 (dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Jika dia menjadi menteri dia akan berpihak pada rakyat kecil, FORMULANYA:
If + past tense + past future	atau	past future +                 if + past tense
If + S + V2 + O + S + would + V1 + O		S + would + V1 + O + if + S + V2 + O
If   he became a minister + he would take side with little people	atau	he would take side with little people + if + he became a minister

Contoh lain: If she had $25 billion she would give Anto half (jika ia punya $25 milliar ia akan memberi Anto separuh)

Kalimat contoh di atas peristiwanya (menjadi menteri) hampir mustahil terjadi, makanya tidak akan ada keberpihakan pada rakyat kecil. Kalimat ini adalah janji seseorang seandainya ia dipilih presiden sebagai seorang menteri.

 

CS3 fungsinya untuk berandai-andai atas suatu peristiwa yang sudah terjadi. Lebih mudahnya, takdir peristiwanya sudah terjadi tetapi masih saja diandaikan sebaliknya … (mendane waktu iko anu …)

Contoh Conditional sentence TYPE 3 (dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Jika ibuku ada disini aku akan memeluknya erat-erat (ibunya telah meninggal), FORMULANYA:
If + past perfect + future perfect	atau	Future perfect +           if + past perfect
If+ S+had+V3+O+S+would have+V3+O		S+would have+V3+O + if + S+had+V3+O
If   my mom had been here + I would have held her tight	atau	I would have held her tight + if + my mom had been here

Contoh lain: If she had had $25 billion she would have given Anto half (jika ia dulu punya $25 milliar ia akan memberinya separuh)

Kalimat contoh di atas peristiwanya (ibu ada di sini) mustahil terjadi, dan tidak akan ada pelukan erat. Bagaimana mungkin ibunya ada di dekatnya, karena sudah meninggal.

Catatan:

1)      Materi pelajaran ini akan lebih mudah diikuti jika telah memahami terlebih dulu apa itu Verb 1, Verb 2, dan Verb 3. Termasuk juga lebih mudah diikuti jika telah mengenal apa itu ‘will’, ‘would’, ‘have/ has’, ‘had’, ‘been’; bahkan ‘can, could, may, might, shall, should …’

2)      Materi pelajaran ini akan lebih mudah diikuti jika telah memahami terlebih dulu apa itu simple present, past tense, present future, past future, past perfect, juga future perfect. Termasuk perubahan kalimat (+), (-) dan (?)nya. Silakan pelajari dulu materi tersebut dari berbagai sumber.

Dalam konteks belajar conditional sentence Type 2, pelajarilah dari—misalnya--Conditional Sentence Type 2  

Mari kita mulai belajar dari CS1.

Sekarang kita focus pada CS2.

Soal/ pertanyaan di atas jawabannya adalah sbb. Perhatikan yang diwarnai.

Pewarnaan dengan highlight/ stabilo di atas menunjukkan perubahan dari CS1 ke CS2 atau sebaliknya. Bandingkan dengan contoh pada table di atas. Sementara pewarnaan pada huruf menunjukkan perubahan dari simple future ke past past future. Satu hal lagi, ‘will’ dan ‘would’ tidak boleh ‘dekat’ dengan if+subjek.
